Race and blast your way through this combat style racing game from a different era.
Originally released in 1996 for MS-DOS, Death Race was revitalized by Remedy games as a PC title as well as for mobile. the premise is simple; play through races ( missions ) and try to win the race. A combination of weapons to disable and destroy fellow racers as well as driving skills are needed to win each race. The point of the game is to become advanced enough that they can challenge the 'Adversary' who is the number one rated racer in Death Race. The new release offered multi player modes that allow for friends to race against each other. All maps are available in multi player while single player mode will allow players to accept or decline different races depending on the opponents that offer challenges and the rewards that each might garner.
Game Play
Death Race is a older style top down race game where players drive cars armed to the teeth. Each race the player might have options for missions, like collecting certain items as they race or else eliminating a certain opponent. Completing these missions will give the player a hefty reward, while not completing accepted missions will cost the player money. Different cars can be purchased and upgrades to armor, speed and handling can be made to each car as well as buying single use items like mines and rocket fuel. Before the race, players can pay the opposing car's mechanic to sabotage that car causing a random amount of damage even before the race. Players start at rank 0 and work their way up into first place in the game rankings. When they reach first place, they can challenge the Adversary who drives a heavily modified car called the Deliverator, a car that isn't available to the player.
Presentation
The game style is typical of other top down racers and the updated graphics are refreshed while still keeping in line with the original art direction. This looks and feels like a retro game. Sound and effects are all what you'd expect, although the upgraded game does have a significant increase in quality from the original.
